PROBLEMS ARE CAUSED BY THESE FACTORS |
1. Watering Improperly
2. Poor Drainage 3. Trees too close to the House |
MOISTURE COMMON FACTORClay soil can expand and contract 2”-6” from seasonal rainfall. The key to minimizing soil movement is to keep the soil moist within the first 2 ft. from the foundation. If soil is too dry it will pull away from the foundation, creating a gap and dry down to the critical load bearing area. When soil in the critical area dries, it causes the house to settle. If the soil is too wet in the critical zone, the house will sink. The key is to keep the soil consistently moist throughout the year.
RECOMMENDATION Water 2-3 times per week for 20 minutes a day during dry seasons. |
